The Firebrand Otago Gold Rush have started building their Sal's NBL 18IN18 squad in the best way possible, confirming the signings of star duo Zoe Richards and Lisa Wallbutton.
Both players have national team experience, Richards more recently at July's Showcase in Auckland, with Wallbutton a familiar face with the Sky Sport Tall Ferns during a tenure that lasted many years.
Such is Wallbutton's commitment to the game, in recent times she has transitioned into the role of team manager with the Tall Ferns.
Both Wallbutton and Richards can't wait to step out on court and represent the Gold Rush at the November 19 to December 6 event.
"I’m looking forward to being part of the 18in18 and getting out on the court with the Gold Rush," said Wallbutton.
"We are building a great women’s programme down here in Dunedin, so I’m excited to see how we stack up against other teams and look at how we can enhance the momentum we have generated this year."
Equally, Richards is ready for the battles ahead.
"I am really looking forward to the new format and season starting for the NBL. This year with the games being broadcast on Sky Sport it will provide great coverage and exposure for women's basketball in New Zealand," said Richards.
"I am excited to be back suiting up for my local Otago Gold Rush team and competing against some very talented players from across the country."
