Tauihi Free Agency: Q & A

Launching April 17th @ 9:30am G.J. Gardner Homes Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa's free agency period is nearly upon us so its time to shed some light on the exact makeup of rosters across the league in the upcoming 2024 season.

Q: How many players can each team sign?

A: Teams must sign a minimum of (12) players on paid agreements, and can then sign up to a further (6) players on either a Development Player or Amateur Player agreement.

 

Q: How many New Zealand players are permitted on each team?

A: Teams must sign (7) New Zealand players on paid agreements, and can then sign up to a further (6) players on either a Development Player or Amateur Player agreement.

 

Q: How many international (non-NZ) players are permitted on each team?

A: Teams must sign (5) non-NZ players, who are classed as imports, and at least (2) of these players must be Australian for the upcoming '24 season. 

 

Q: Can a non-NZ player be signed to a Development Player or Amateur Player agreement?

A: No. Development Player and Amateur Player agreements are only for NZ players for the upcoming season. 

 

Q: Does the league still have an Oceania Programme?

A: Yes. The Oceania Programme, via an implemented set of league rules, allows players who are NZ resident and hail from the Oceania & Pacific region to play in Tauihi as unrestricted players.  

 

Q: What is the Salary Cap for Tauihi teams?

A: The league does not disclose team or player payments publicly.

 

Q: Will Tauihi have a trade window during the season like they do in the Sal’s NBL?

A: No, there is no trade window in Tauihi for the upcoming '24 season. 

 

Q: How many games does a player need to play to qualify for finals in Tauihi for the upcoming season?

A: In season 2024 the finals qualification has been set at (4) games, which can either be in the Rapid League or Tauihi.
