Tauihi Free Agency to Launch Wednesday April 17th

G.J. Gardner Homes Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa is thrilled to announce the opening of Free Agency for the 2024 season, opening on Wednesday, April 17th at 9am.

Tauihi recently announced the doubling of player payments commencing this season and the expansion into international markets in 2025.

International expansion will centre on teams joining from either Australia or South‑East Asia. The League will make further announcements on expansion plans in the near future.

The League has also announced a shift in season timing, with the 2024 competition to be played across October, November and December.

The Free Agency period marks a pivotal moment for Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa as franchises aim to strengthen existing lineups while also scouting talent from around the world to join the competition, which is set to again include a number of players with links to the WNBA.

"The massive changes we are embarking upon reflect the Leagues’ commitment to growing the sport and providing our athletes with the best possible platform to showcase their talents here in Aotearoa, and around the world," says Maree Taylor, GM of Leagues.

"The increased financial commitment to player payments has made this scheduling change possible, demonstrating the dedication of the League, franchises and our commercial partners to supporting our players and elevating Tauihi into one of the best women’s basketball competitions in the world.”

The 2024 season will see franchises able to contract up to 18 players each, including as many as five international players on each roster, while the full season schedule and roster makeup will be revealed next week.
