The Schick 3X3 Cup has been postponed to either October or November to ensure all athletes are able to attend the event at ILT Stadium Southland, and also to enable fans to attend and enjoy the 70 games on offer.
All up, the Schick 3X3 Cup will involve 20 franchises (10 x men, 10 x women) and 80 of New Zealand's leading players.
The event was scheduled to tip-off on Thursday September 3, but given the current travel restrictions in place due to COVID-19 regulations and alert levels, plus a number of flights currently deactivated across the country, there is too much uncertainty to host this event in less than three weeks’ time.
A number of alternative dates are available in October and November, which are now being considered. The NBL is committed to holding the event during this time. A final decision on dates will be made once there is a clearer understanding of the ability for players to travel.
"First and foremost our priority is on the health and well-being of our players, officials and the community. At this stage, given the current restrictions and alert levels in place in place, especially those applying to travel in and out of Auckland, it is unrealistic to expect the event can go ahead in early September," said NBL General Manager, Justin Nelson.
"However, working together with our franchises, Schick and ILT Stadium Southland, we have already identified alternate dates and will move quickly to announce the rescheduling of the event once we know our players, who are based across every part of New Zealand, are able to travel safely and without any restrictions."
