The Sal’s NBL has gone from strength to strength in 2020 after striking a social media rights and distribution partnership with sports media company WAVE.tv for the next League season.
The partnership sees content created from the Sal’s NBL (men and women) and the Schick 3x3 Cup distributed across WAVE.tv’s basketball-focused media brands including “Buckets” and “Break Ankles Daily”, on social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook and YouTube.
The highlights and stories from New Zealand’s premier basketball league will be seen by WAVE.tv’s audience of modern sports fans; the sports media publisher has more than 65 million followers and reaches over 200 million people every month, generating an incredible 3.2 billion monthly video views.
The deal was brokered by the League’s global rights and distribution partner, Spalk.
“This is another major step forward for our national leagues, and importantly for our stars, the players,” says Sal’s NBL General Manager Justin Nelson.
“Excitingly, we are taking a leap into a bigger social media arena and joining others partnering with WAVE.tv such as FIBA, Euroleague and BIG3. This is another strategic move to help leverage our current position as one of the globe’s only basketball competitions in action.
“There is no doubt our return to play during June and July has attracted an intrigued audiences around the world, so our partnership with WAVE.tv is another move to help us grow the Sal’s NBL and once again show commercial partners that we are worth investing in.”
Vice President of Partnerships for WAVE.tv Daniel Maas says the partnership has helped bolster their growing basketball presence.
“We are thrilled to be joining forces with the Sal’s NBL to package and reimagine their programming for the WAVE.tv network and our audience.
“Our basketball vertical has continued to be one of our strongest across our portfolio of media brands and features a robust set of partnerships with marquee domestic and international leagues and federations.
“The Sal’s NBL is a welcome addition to the family and we can’t wait to bring New Zealand’s best hoops action to our users.”
The NBL’s Schick 3X3 Cup will be played at ILT Stadium Southland with all 70 games to be broadcast on Sky Sport (dates to be announced). Work is also progressing on the return of Sal’s NBL women’s competition for 2020.
