The Southern Hoiho (96) open their account for the season with a clinical performance against the BNZ Northern Kāhu (69).
A Jessie Edwards double double was the icing on the cake in a dominant team performance from the Southern Hoiho. After scoring first the Hoiho never looked back, maintaining their lead and control of the game all the way to the finish. Edwards was immense in the paint, leading the scoring with 22 points and rebounding 15 times. With Edwards doing the dirty work and providing the platform, the rest of the Hoiho lineup got stuck into their mahi. Taylah Simmons (20pts), Claire Jacobs (16pts) and Rebecca Pizzey (10pts) all scored in the double digits while Paige Bradley and Lillian Dart played enabler with some tidy assists.
Aliyah Matharu (18pts) and Haliegh Reinoehl (16pts) were standouts for the Kāhu, doing their best to keep in touch but the Southern girls proved too strong this time out.
• Kāhu - Aliyah Matharu (18pts, 8rbs, 1ast), Haliegh Reinoehl (16pts, 5rbs), Lauren Mansfield (10pts, 7rbs, 8ast)
• Hoiho - Jessie Edwards (22pts, 15rbs, 3ast), Taylah Simmons (20pts, 7rbs, 4ast), Claire Jacobs (16pts, 5rbs, 2ast)
The Southern Hoiho (44) continue their winning ways, defeating the BNZ Northern Kāhu (28).
The Hoiho started their clean sweep day over the Kāhu with a win in the Rapid League. Lillian Dart (12pts, 4ast) provided constant threat as a scorer and a conduit for her teammates as they worked to keep the Kāhu at arms length. The Kāhu will be frustrated with that performance, having periods of ascendency to stay in touch but ultimately unable to wrestle control of the game back.
• Kāhu - Abigail Curtin (7pts, 1rb), Keija Miringaorangi (7pts, 4rbs), Vitolia Tuilave (4pts, 6rbs)
• Hoiho - Lillian Dart (12pts, 4ast), Fayreen Fualau (9pts, 3rbs), Alana Paewai (6pts, 4rbs, 2ast)
