Team name meaning:
Our distinct look is inspired by the power and speed of the Pouākai (Haast Eagle) concealing its attack with the sun at its back. Revered as an apex predator with an awe-inspiring wingspan, the Pouākai is considered a symbol of mana/status within the Mainland takiwa.
The Pūhoro design featured on the wings represents leadership and protection and shows the importance the Pouākai team plays in building regional status, while inspiring our players to take flight on court.
