The G.J. Gardner Homes Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa competition is proud to celebrate Inclusion Round 2026, recognising the power of basketball to bring people together and the importance of creating a game where everyone feels welcome.
Taking place across Rounds 5 and 6, from Friday, October 23 to Sunday, November 1, Inclusion Round returns for its third year in Tauihi, shining a spotlight on the diversity of the basketball community and celebrating the people, groups and organisations that make the sport accessible and welcoming across Aotearoa.
Building on the foundations established in previous seasons, the initiative reinforces a simple but important message: basketball belongs to everyone, regardless of age, background, ability or circumstance.
Across the two rounds, all five Tauihi teams will take part in Inclusion Round activities, connecting with their local communities and celebrating the individuals and organisations helping make basketball a game for everyone.
While each team will bring its own approach to the initiative, the shared focus will be on recognising diversity, encouraging participation and highlighting the positive impact basketball can have beyond the court.
From grassroots participants and volunteers to athletes, supporters and community organisations, Inclusion Round recognises that the strength of basketball lies in the connections it creates and the opportunities it provides for people to be involved.
Previous Inclusion Rounds have highlighted the important work of organisations such as Special Olympics New Zealand and local inclusive sporting groups, bringing greater recognition to athletes of all abilities and the people who support them.
The 2026 edition builds on that foundation, with clubs playing an important role in celebrating inclusion within their communities and recognising those who contribute to making the sport more accessible.
While the action on court will continue to showcase some of the best women's basketball talent in Aotearoa, Inclusion Round provides an opportunity to look beyond the scoreboard and acknowledge the positive impact basketball can have within our communities.
Whether playing, coaching, volunteering, officiating or cheering from the stands, everyone has a place in the game.
Inclusion Round 2026 tips off on Friday, October 23, when Mainland Pouākai host the Tokomanawa Queens in Christchurch, kicking off six games across two weekends.
Join us as we celebrate the people, passion and communities that make basketball special, and continue working towards a game that is welcoming, accessible and inclusive for all.
Basketball belongs to everyone.
